It’s likely you’ve heard of Soup for Seniors before. It’s an all-volunteer effort that happens during one week in February. Churches, schools, businesses & individuals donate nonperishable food items to the Local Office on Aging.
Besides soup, it’s looking to collect crackers; peanut butter; individual servings of items such as oatmeal, apple sauce and other fruit; canned meat and tuna; canned fruit or vegetables; & powdered instant breakfast mix.
The donations are distributed to needy seniors in the Roanoke Valley & Alleghany Highlands. Many of them are housebound. Winter weather often limits their ability to get to the grocery store, or interferes with others delivering food to them.
