Freedom First has released their 2015 Annual Report that reviews the Credit Union’s accomplishments, innovative programs, and awards for 2015.
“In 2016, Freedom First will celebrate its sixtieth anniversary,” states Paul Phillips, President and CEO of Freedom First. “We have come a long way from our humble beginnings, founded in the Salem, Virginia, General Electric plant with a total investment of $40.” Through strategic, local growth, today Freedom First’s assets exceed $400 million and the Credit Union family has grown to over 40,000 members.
Highlights from 2015 include the following:
• Freedom First’s focus and commitment on growing Business Banking and Commercial Lending took a significant step forward with the purchase of office space in the City of Roanoke. Opening of this business-focused branch is planned for late 2016.
• Our Mortgage group saw an up-tick in business, and was selected as Affiliate of the Year by the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors.
• We continued to be recognized for our innovative products and services, including our Responsible Rides program that was recognized nationally, winning the 2015 Desjardins Adult Financial Literacy Award from the Credit Union National Association; and, our innovative workforce development loan program that received a Wells Fargo NEXT Opportunity Award, which will go toward expanding the program, ultimately helping 500 people, over the next three years, secure a job with sustainable workforce skills.
