The City of Roanoke has been selected to take part in the new Invest Health initiative aimed at transforming how leaders from mid-size American cities work together to help low-income communities thrive. Roanoke’s team comprises representatives from Roanoke College, the City of Roanoke, Freedom First Credit Union, United Way of Roanoke Valley, and Local Environmental Agriculture Project (LEAP).
Helping Our Members Prosper—Helping Our Communities Thrive
Freedom First is a member-owned, democratically operated, not-for-profit organization managed by a volunteer board of directors, with the specified mission of meeting the credit and savings needs of consumers, especially persons of modest means. The purpose of this Credit Union is to promote thrift among its members by affording them an opportunity to accumulate their savings and to create for them a source of credit for provident, business or productive purposes. Freedom First is proud to serve the Roanoke & New River Valleys for 60 years.
Fewer fees, great rates, and local decision making on loans are just a few of the ways being part of Freedom First benefits our members every day.
Check out our nationally recognized grants program, our academic scholarships, our annual Community Work Day, and some of our Impact Banking products and services.
More than 45,000 people who live and work in the Roanoke and New River Valleys enjoy the benefits of membership every time they stop in a branch, log in to online banking, and use one of the thousands of free ATMs in our network.
We invite anyone who lives, works, worships, or goes to school anywhere throughout Botetourt, Craig, Franklin, Montgomery, and Roanoke counties or the cities of Roanoke, Radford, and Salem to open an account and apply for a loan today.
